A native of the Republic of Georgia, baritone VASIL KOLKHIDASHVILI sings Scarpia in Miami Lyric Opera’s production of Tosca this season and Fauré’s Requiem with the Moraga - Rossmoor Chorus in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been acclaimed as Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera with Connecticut Opera, Germont in La Traviata with New York City Opera.Tonio in Pagliacci with Taconic Opera, Scarpia in Tosca with New Jersey Verismo Opera, Eletsky in Pique Dame and the title roles in Eugene Onegin and Don Giovanni with Tbilisi Opera Theatre; Alfonso in La Favorita and Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor with Sverdlovsk Opera; Amonasro in Aïda and Monterone in Rigoletto with National Lyric Opera; Gregorio in Roméo et Juliette and Lescaut in Manon with Long Island Opera; Don Carlo in La Forza del Destino with Amato Opera, Germont in La Traviata and the title role in Rigoletto with Regina Opera and Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore, Rodrigo in Don Carlo and Silvio in Pagliacci with Dicapo Opera Theatre. Mr. Kolkhidashvili has performed as a recitalist at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and the Gateway Music Society, and was the winner of the William Matheus Sullivan Music Foundation, Dicapo Opera Theatre Vocal Competition and the National Vocal Competition of Tbilisi Opera. In addition, he was a semi-finalist in the International Vocal Competition, “Concors de Cant Francesc Viñas.” Recipient of a Masters Degree in voice and composition from Tbilisi State Conservatory, Mr. Kolkhidashvili also received a Bachelor’s Degree from Tbilisi State College in both voice and violin.
